Our Story

Welcome to Camp Cucumber, where compassion meets adventure. Founded in 1990 by Diane McQuaig, our journey began with a heartfelt Christmas Dinner for struggling single mom families. Over the years, this tradition blossomed into something extraordinary—a week-long retreat in the breathtaking Canadian wilderness. At Camp Cucumber, we provide enriching workshops for moms and a plethora of outdoor activities for children, all aimed at creating cherished memories and breaking the cycle of generational poverty. With the support of our community, we’ve been able to host approximately 1800 moms and kids, but the journey continues. Join us as we strive to spread joy, hope, and a sense of belonging to those who need it most.

Our Mission

To enhance the lives of single mom families struggling with poverty, isolation and abuse, by offering a unique, stress-free weeklong camping experience in northern Ontario, and an annual Christmas celebration dinner to rekindle camp friendships.

Core Values

At Camp Cucumber, we believe in a set of core values centering around the concept of FREEDOM. From the moment our families board the bus in Toronto, our goal is to provide them with freedom from the stresses and strains of everyday city life.
